O'Fallon Auto Insurance

Auto Insurance

The state of Missouri requires every driver to maintain an auto insurance policy. This includes drivers in O'Fallon and the surrounding areas. While you have a variety of options available to you in terms of your coverage levels, you must meet the minimum coverage levels the state requires. Here's what you need to know.

Minimum Coverage Limits

Your policy must include the following categories at the very least.

Bodily Injury Coverage

If there are any injuries in an accident that is your fault, this aspect of your coverage will pay for everyone's medical bills. You must have at least $25,000 of coverage per person, per accident. In addition, your coverage must include at least $50,000 of coverage to encompass everyone involved in the accident.

Property Damage Coverage

In an at-fault accident, there will likely be damage to the other driver's vehicle or to some other form of personal property, like a home or business structure. This component of your coverage will pay to fix that damage.

Remember, your vehicle is not included in this coverage. The minimum requirement for O'Fallon drivers is $10,000 per accident, although you can increase coverage if you wish.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Although auto insurance is legally required in O'Fallon, that doesn't mean that every driver on the road follows the law. Some drivers choose to ignore the law and drive without insurance. This means that you could be stuck covering the costs of your medical bills and vehicle repairs out of your own pocket.

That's where uninsured motorist coverage comes in. The minimum coverage levels in this category are the same as for bodily injury coverage. It's $25,000 and $50,000 per person and per accident, respectively.

Upgrading Your Coverage

For even more protection, you can also add on optional coverage. Collision coverage will pay for any damage to your own car when you are at fault in an accident. Comprehensive coverage will include a variety of other possible damages, like from falling tree branches or storms. While this extra coverage is optional, it can give you added peace of mind and may be required by your auto loan provider, if you have one.
